This summer I am getting into underwater photography. I am really excited to try it out more. I have shot with point and shoot cameras and iphones with underwater cases. When I was younger I would take photos of my friends with the waterproof disposable cameras. I loved the way they turned out. I am looking at underwater 35mm cameras. I will be posting my under water project this summer so keep an eye out. Contact me if you are interested in modeling in the water or splashing around with me some day. I am also interested in doing an underwater engagement shoot if anyone is interested, please let me know.
Spring is coming and I have been shooting a lot more and I keep very busy. This last weekend I volunteered for the second time for a non- profit that I really like. They are called “Project Fairy Godmothers” and what they do is give girls the opportunity to get a prom dress, shoes, and accessories for prom with no cost. Not all families can afford prom dresses or all that goes into prom. People from all over donate old dresses and accessories. People volunteer to help with finding them the right dress. Stylists come in and give hair and makeup demos to the girls so they can do their own. At this event, I met some amazing women and few I got to talk to about what they do.
April Fools day was on Saturday and I got to play the best prank ever.
My best friend lives about 300 miles from me and we rarely get to see each other. Her boyfriend had contacted me about proposing and having me be there to photograph it. They planned a trip to Minneapolis to take their daughters to Mall of America and he wanted to do it at that time. Her main squeeze and I came up with a plan and I had to tell her that I was out of town the weekend she was going to come. I hated lying to her and she was super bummed. April 1st came and I was at the Stone Arch bridge waiting for them to walk towards me. I have done proposal shoots so many times but this particular shoot made me so nervous. I did not want to screw up MY BEST FRIENDS proposal. I was shaking with nerves and excitement. I was thinking," Crap, what if she sees me and I blow it!" I was waiting and waiting which seemed like forever. I had to set my shutter speed way up because I was shaking so hard. Finally, I saw her and her man. I ran close and kept an eye on them. She looked right at me! I didn't care, I kept shooting. The proposal happened and a few tears went down my cheek with excitement. She was totally surprised and when I saw her looking at me, she was just looking in my direction. I love my job and it is very rewarding but this time, it was more rewarding than ever. It is one April Fools Day that I will never forget.
Today I woke up feeling hard on myself. I didn't like the way I looked -- I rolled out of bed and smudged on some red lipstick and started walking down town. As usual I got asked ,"could you spare some money" by some groups of people that were sitting on the corner. Today there was a specific couple who asked me and I told them, "No, sorry." The woman stopped and said, "You are so beautiful." I was a bit thrown off so I replied with a, "Thank you". She continued to ask about my lipstick color and we started up a conversation about makeup , valentines day, and relationships. I ended up putting my lipstick on her and giving her the tube. She was really happy about it and we ended up hugging for a solid minute before we parted ways. Little miss Layla (I hope I spelt her name right) really moved me. I have worked my hardest trying to make money doing what I love. While doing so, I have had people bully me into working for free. These people bullying me have jobs and are able to pay me for what I am worth. Yet it happens all the time. Where this woman is straight up asking strangers for money and no bullying involved. I have more respect for that. No matter what your financial situation, there are truly good people and their are not so good people. I hope the best for little miss Layla and all the good people in rough situation whether or not they are on the streets or just struggling to pay expensive their bills. We are all in this boat together and none of us know where we will end up anyways.
